Our History

Prior to the incorporation of Residential Resources in 1988, human service agencies funded through the Allegheny County Department of Human Services had no assistance or choice in securing housing for the individuals with disabilities they served. The County recognized the need to make significant changes and, in partnership with leaders in the local banking industry, created our organization as an independent non-profit 501c3 real estate management organization.

Since our founding, Residential Resources, Inc.’s pioneering model of residential property management and housing support services has been widely recognized for high ethical standards, trusted knowledge, and proven results leading to profound impact on quality of life for persons with physical and intellectual disabilities.

In 2007, Residential Resources expanded our charitable mission to begin assisting persons with disabilities of all ages in renovating existing housing to meet their specific accessibility needs. Our Home Modifications for Persons with Disabilities Project (or Accessible Housing Project) gave life to new opportunities and new ways of service to the region’s disabled residents.

After more than 25 years, we continue to uphold our noble mission of clearing the obstacles to high quality housing solutions for individuals and families in their effort to live without barriers, comfortably and to live safely in a home of their choice.

Residential Resources, Inc. has two affiliate companies: Residential Resources Southwest (RRSW) and Residential Resources Development Corporation (RRDC), each Pennsylvania non-profit corporations.

RRDC was incorporated in 1992 and was formed as a Community Housing Development Organization that utilizes HUD funding to provide affordable housing to low income, mentally disabled individuals.

RRSW was incorporated in 1998 and provides the same services as RRI for individuals in areas outside of Allegheny County. The single-family homes and apartments managed within these corporations are providing housing to more than 1,000 individuals.

All three of our affiliated companies are organized as Pennsylvania nonprofit corporations and have been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt charities under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
